Frequently asked Questions

All your Pool Void Cover® Questions Answered

There are a number of components to a Pool Void Covers® system, these include:

  • Beams – running across the width of the pool. Specified to Australian engineering standards, and removing the need for acrow props. Acrow props can damage the pool floor surface.
  • The Void Cover Panel – available in a standard range – or can be custom built upon request. These are a sturdy platform that are mounted onto the pool beams. The number of panels is determined by the width and length of the pool to be covered.
  • All of our covers are a full lock down system – that can only be removed with tools.

We can cover a small plunge pool to a large commercial swimming pool – our systems are modular so can be made as small, or as large, as you require. Our 225kg SWL Scaffold Rated Pool Void Covers® can cover a pool waterline width of up to 7 metres, without the need for acrow props. The length of the pool is unlimited, we have covered lap pools to over 30m+ length. Used on sleeper pools whilst the house build is completed.

Our system is the number one choice for ensuring your pool is safe whilst work is being undertaken in the pool area. The system can be installed for long periods at a time – allowing for peace of mind from knock down rebuild and house building to lock up stage.

For existing pool owners – when major works are being undertaken on your property – this system meets all safety regulations; ensures a safe working environment for the contractors; and provides a safe area whilst existing pool fencing may be removed.

In addition, depending on the distance of your pool from your house, you may need to cover the pool when contractors/builders are working on your roof, or when scaffolding is required around your house build.

In addition, the system has also been designed, so that for existing pools, it is easy to install, and causes no damage to your existing pool upon installation and removal.

The normal applications for the Pool Void Covers® system are:

  • Developers and designers – Project management, allowing for a 100% safe work environment for staff and contractors;
  • House Builders – Removes the need for pool temporary fencing, allowing contractors to undertake their work safely. In addition, when the contractors leave at night – there are no fences to put back up to ensure a safe zone.
  • Home Owners – Your new house builder/site manager will advise you on when you will need a Pool Void Covers® system. We deal with all major builders across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane – and understand all of the different state regulations and requirements that are needed for your new house build.
  • Whether you are having your house built from new, or undertaking development, or having a KDR (Knock Down Rebuild), the Pool Void Covers® system allows the peace of mind that your pool is fully protected and secure whilst you have renovations and work undertaken.

The cost is dependent on a number of factors – the size of the pool, the safety rating you require, and the duration of the rental period.

No, we do not retail our systems – as we are a rental company.

In addition, as the product is a safety system and for insurance requirements, it must only be installed by qualified personnel.

Our systems are designed and manufactured by us in Australia.

Click on the ‘Get Quote’ button and we will specify the right number of panels and requirements for your local agent.

The system has been designed to be easy to install and remove, but due to the high risk of our business – working at heights, building site requirements, working near open water – our systems are only installed by our in-house teams – who are trained professionals and had the appropriate training.

After install, the system is signed off with an Engineering Certificate.

The time to install the cover depends on the access to the pool area, and the size of the pool to be covered. Installation can take from 30 minutes for a small plunge pool to 2 hours for a larger pool.

The simple answer is yes, we can cover any shape pool, and any type of pool.

We have different systems to adapt to your own requirements – so if you have a feature wall, or a waterfall feature – or a large rockery alongside the pool – we can still install a system to meet your requirements.

Our in-house engineering team will review your requirements and come up with a system for you.

There are a number of manufacturers of plunge style pools that have different loading requirements, and we modify our systems to meet the pool manufacturers designs.

There are some unique style of pools on the market, and some do not allow you to put any weight on the side of the pool at all. This can be an issue if you need to put scaffold over the top of your pool.

We have designed scaffold rated engineered Pool Void Covers® that are ‘floating’ and do not even physically touch your pool.

FAQS

We only hire temporary pool fencing. These are made from mill aluminium welded to create a superior strong and lightweight fence panel. The fence panels are manufactured to meet and exceed AS1926.1 2012 (Australian Standard for pool fencing).

Temporary pool fencing is not like the mesh fencing that you see on industrial work sites. Mesh fencing is not pool compliant.

We also rent temporary pool gates – stylish aluminum gates, set up with adjustable magna latch and adjustable tension hinges.

Our range includes Temporary pool fencing; temporary pool gates; Steel feet (stands); Clamps; CPR (Resuscitation Signs) and Site Danger signs for new pool constructions.

Yes – the fence panels meet and exceed the requirements of AS1926.1 2012 (Australian Standard for pool fencing).

All gates are self-closing and fitted with a magna latch (Magnetic Latch). The latches have a lockable key assemble for extra security and peace of mind.

All our equipment is made in Australia – unlike competitors who use cheap quality equipment made in China.

Also – all our installers are fully trained and competent in installing a compliant pool fence

We hire across South East Queensland – from the Gold Coast, through Brisbane, up to the Sunshine Coast, and West to Ipswich

At Temporary Pool Fence Hire, we offer a professional service at competitive rates. We have high quality products that are right for the job. All our staff are fully trained on the correct installation and are friendly too!

Yes – you can install temporary pool fencing around an above ground pool, but you must also have a temporary pool gate as well.

Please note though – there are different rules and requirements for using temporary pool fences if your above ground pool is only a temporary installation. We recommend that you contact your local council officer – as the requirements change between LGA (Local Government Area).

In all instances though, you should always have compliant temporary pool fence available on site before water is put into a swimming pool.

A concrete pool may take many months to cure. As soon as the concrete has been poured, the pool is capable of holding 300mm of water – Queensland laws require a compliant temporary pool fence around the pool.

The temporary pool fence is signed off by a building certifier (not a pool inspector). Most building certifiers now request a pool gate is installed as well – with the logic that it means trade and services companies will not remove the pool fence panels, as there is an access point.

Council officers have the right to enter your property at any time, and if a complaint has been made about your fence – then they have to attend and undertake a preliminary inspection.

They may request you to take immediate action to make your existing pool safe – and this may include the instruction of installing temporary pool fence within 24hrs.

First, ensure there are no damaged power cables in the areas – if there are – cordon off the area, and contact the relevant authorities. As a pool owner, you are responsible for maintaining a compliant pool fence at all times – even if it has been storm damaged. We work with a number of insurance companies across SE Queensland – and can make emergency out of hours deliveries and installations for you. You will need to provide all your contact details, and the amount of fencing that is required. We will invoice you directly – which you can then supply to your insurance company. If there are damaged trees still in the area, or damaged buildings – we may supply additional fence and cordon off a larger area than the original fence.

The hire starts on the day of delivery/installation.

The hire ends on the day you have been quoted.

Generally, most rentals are for an initial month hire – and are extended as required.

If you wish to extend the hire, you need to advise us 5 business days before the end date.

We require 5 business day notice of end of hire.

If you no longer require the fence whilst in your first initial hire period (and want to return it early), there are no part credits or refunds.

Once you have accepted the quote, you will be emailed the invoice for the initial hire period. The email has a link where you can pay for the rental online – using a debit or credit card (standard merchant fees apply) – or you can pay directly via bank deposit. If you want to extend the rental – then a new invoice is sent for the extended rental period.
If you wish to access trade terms, then you will need to contact us and request a trade account form. This is for glaziers; pool inspectors; landscapers, builders etc. We cannot provide trade terms without this form being pre-completed.
For most installations, we allow at least a metre on either side of the pool. For example – if you have a 7m x 4m pool – on 2 of the sides you will need 9m (7m pool + 1m + 1m), and for the width you will need 6m (4m pool + 1m + 1m). So, the total will be 30 linear metre (9 + 9 + 6 + 6).
The equipment is always the responsibility of the hirer whilst it is in your possession. If the equipment is stolen, please advise us as soon as possible. We will provide an invoice for the cost of the equipment that is stolen, allowing you to make a claim on your insurance company. In addition, the equipment rental charges will continue until we have received cleared payment for the loss of the equipment.
The equipment is always the responsibility of the hirer whilst it is in your possession. If the equipment is damaged, please advise us as soon as possible. We will ask for a brief description and maybe photos. We will then make a brief assessment of the repairs/replacement costs. This will allow you to follow up with any parties that may have damaged the equipment.
All our goods are photographed on leaving the depot and on installation. If on collection, there are damaged or lost goods – then fees will apply. As we have our own workshop, we try and keep the fee as low as possible for repairs of broken panels or gates.

Wherever possible we aim to keep all costs inclusive so you don’t incur additional charges, however, there are some circumstances where additional charges come into effect.

These include:

Labour Costs

The temporary pool fence hire includes one (1) delivery and one (1) pick up. If a request is made to come and move the fence, add additional fence panels, partially remove fence panels etc then a labour charge will apply.

If TPFH attends your site and is unable to install or collect the temporary fencing and components on the day requested by the customer, for any reason outside of TPFH control, then labour charges will apply.

Damaged or lost equipment

TPFH thoroughly inspects all our products before leaving our depot and again upon collection. If any part is damaged, unable to be repaired, missing or stolen, replacement costs will be incurred.

Replacement costs for common products deemed unfit for repair, missing or stolen will be as follows;

  • Pool Gate: $900 + GST
  • Pool Fence: $200 + GST
  • Clamps: $8 + GST
  • Feet: $50 + GST
Full terms and conditions are supplied with invoice.
